Axis bank was first of the new private banks initiated its operation in 1994 with the contribution of the largest financial institutions of the country, Administrator of the Specified Undertaking of the Unit Trust of India -UTI - I promoted Axis Bank Ltd., Bank was set up with a capital of Rs.115 Crore out of which SUUTI-I contributed 100 crores & Rs.7.5 crores, LIC & GIC with its four subsidiaries (National Insurance Company Ltd., The New India Assurance Company Ltd., The Oriental Insurance Company Ltd. and United India Insurance Company Ltd.) with Rs.1.5 crore each.
