With the merger of Chartered bank of India, Australia and China, founded in 1853
& Standard Bank of South Africa Standard Chartered Bank was formed in 1969. The bank head quarters are situated in London with UK as a base country. They acquired Grindlays Bank in 2000 and another milestone was the acquisition of American Express Bank in 2007.
In India Chartered Bank, started its operations in 1858 at Kolkata as its first overseas branch, but in 1869 Bombay branch became the head quarters of the bank with kolkata as key associate. The bank has expanded its presence in the country with a network of 83 branches including multiple branches in all major cities like Chennai, New Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Guragon, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Noida, Pune etc.
